SUMMARY:Proms at Wymondham Abbey
DESCRIPTION:Summer Proms concert celebrating 45 years of music-making in Wymondham and south Norfolk in the glorious setting of Wymondham Abbey\n \nAre you looking for an uplifting and dramatic summer’s evening entertainment in July? Look no further!\nCome to Wymondham Choral Society’s Proms concert at 7pm in Wymondham Abbey on 18th July to enjoy well-known classical melodies performed by one of Wymondham’s premier musical groups, together with always-wonderful local accompanist, Rob Goodrich and professional soprano soloist, Elizabeth Roberts. Among many other career highlights, Elizabeth was soprano soloist at the entry of the Olympic Flame and the lighting of the cauldron in the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.\nThe first half of the concert will include sacred songs by Mozart and Faure, including Ave Verum Corpus and Panis Angelicus, Handel’s famous coronation anthem, Zadok the Priest, and the much-loved Serenade to Music by the great English composer, Ralph Vaughan Williams.\nIn the interval, you can enjoy refreshments in the glorious ambiance of the Abbey and its outdoor settings (we always seem to get lovely weather for our summer concerts – though this cannot be guaranteed!).\nIn the second part of the concert, you will be treated to choruses from the operas that everyone will recognise (perhaps from film and TV scores), including the ‘Easter Hymn’ from Cavalleria Rusticana and Puccini’s ‘Vissi d’arte’ from Tosca. The programme will conclude with traditional Proms favourites ‘Rule Britannia’, ‘Jerusalem’ and ‘Land of Hope and Glory’. The ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ from Handel’s Messiah will provide a rousing finale to a wonderful evening’s music.\nOur successful and very friendly choir was formed in September 1980 and presented its first concert the following year, making 2026 our 45th singing anniversary!  The Society was formed to provide choral-music opportunities for singers and audiences in Wymondham and the wider south Norwich and Norfolk area. We attract members from across this area and from a wide range of ages, backgrounds and experience – from those who would like to develop their basic musical knowledge and singing experience, through to those who are expert singers and help to support the rest of us – the one characteristic we all share is that we love singing together!\nDo come and enjoy our music-making at this concert, which promises to be one of our best-ever performances!\nTickets are available online on the website, from members of the choir, from Reeves in Wymondham and from Wymondham Abbey Shop. You can also find out more about joining and/or supporting Wymondham Choral Society at www.wymondhamchoralsociety.org.uk ( http://www.wymondhamchoralsociety.org.uk ) .\n
