Wymondham Chess Club
Description
The Wymondham Chess Club, with its longstanding presence spanning over six decades, is recognised as a key cultural and social asset to South Norfolk. The club, which meets most Friday evenings at the Feathers Pub, actively participates in regional chess competitions and is committed to fostering the game across generations. We offer a space where the members can come together to enjoy and play chess.
Senior Chess Club
The Senior Chess Club at Wymondham Chess is a key participant in the Norfolk County Chess League and Cups. With three teams - the Eagles, the Owls, and the Wrens - representing us in various divisions of the league, the Wymondham Wrens emerged as the champions of the Norfolk County Chess League in Division 4 in 2024. Our club is not just about competition, but also about enjoying the game of chess in a friendly and relaxed environment. Whether you’re an experienced player or want to improve your game, the Senior Chess Club at Wymondham Chess offers a welcoming environment to enjoy the game and improve your skills.
Junior Chess Club
We are a community initiative dedicated to fostering the strategic game of chess among young minds. As a member, you’re stepping into a club with a proud tradition of achievement. Our former junior members have honed their skills with us and gone on to compete in the Norfolk Chess League at the regional level.
At Wymondham Junior Chess Club, we believe in tailored development. Upon joining, you will be assessed and placed in a group that matches your skill level. This ensures that you’re always challenged, but never out of your depth. Our divisions are designed to foster healthy competition and growth among peers.
Mentorship is at the heart of our club. You’ll have the guidance of seasoned players, many of whom started their chess journey right where you are. These mentors, who are currently competing in senior teams, are here to share their knowledge and passion for chess with you.
Our club is open to all, with no membership required to attend our junior sessions. We stand by our commitment to making chess accessible to everyone. To kickstart your journey, we offer a complimentary introductory session. Thereafter, a nominal fee of £3.00 per session will apply. This fee contributes to the club’s operations and ensures a quality experience for all members.
Our Junior session takes place from 17:30 to 19:00, and the Senior gatherings start from 19:30 on most Fridays. The meetings are held at the Feathers Public House in Wymondham, with convenient parking available at the rear. The sessions are conducted in the upstairs room, above the main bar.
