Wymondham Ukulele Group
Description
If you are visiting Wymondham for a few days (with your uke, of course) and are in need of some entertainment and fun with some like minded individuals, you can do no better than join Wymondham Ukuleles at one of our weekly club nights at a pub in central Wymondham.
We meet each first and third Tuesday at The White Hart and second and fourth Thursday at The Feathers. Both meetings start at 7.30pm and last for a couple of hours playing selections from our extensive song vault which is available free without password on our website wymondhamukulelegroup.com. We also let you know which songs we are playing on that particular day on our facebook page. If you have trouble accessing our website, don’t worry - club members are very willing to share their music!
The first meeting of the Wymondham Ukulele Group took place in 2012 and has been a very active group ever since - one or two of the original members are still playing at our weekly club nights. We welcome anywhere between 15 and 20 players each evening so we are still a very vibrant and fun loving club.
We have a group of players who take turns to lead each evening and so they put their own individual stamp on those evening’s proceedings. There is a half-time break to refresh your glasses and further good news is that there are no subs or payments to be made - the only cost to you as a player is the price of your drink at the bar.
We truly welcome all abilities of players to our club nights. We have a connection with a local ukulele teacher who organises teaching sessions for new players in Wymondham and we recently welcomed a half dozen new members from this group to a club night. Judging by the smiles on their faces at the end of the evening, they had a whale of a time. They might not have managed to play every chord but they certainly enjoyed making music with all the others present.
A group of the players from WUG have a loosely formed ‘gig gang’ - basically any player can join - and we perform our songs to local groups throughout the year in exchange for a donation to our annual charity. We raise in the region of £1000 each year for local charities and have a lot of fun in the process as well.
We know that, without exception, everybody loves playing their ukuleles and making music together - and it shows by the amount of friendly banter that takes place throughout each club night evening. As a guest, you will be made very welcome so we look forward to meeting you the next time you are in Wymondham.
