The WYO is a complete chamber orchestra catering for players of grades 3 to 8+. This season we celebrate 30 years of music-making in Wymondham, south and west Norfolk and Norwich.
Our repertoire is varied and tailored to the current membership. Symphonies hold no fear! Works classical to contemporary (including jazz) are tackled with enthusiasm. The WYO has also inspired and premiered works by composers Tom Armstrong and Chris Wright.
The orchestra performs regularly in Wymondham Abbey and elsewhere in Norfolk and Suffolk.
WYMS was formed in 2000 in response to requests from local musicians. Based originally on the WYO, over the years we have expanded to include a highly successful Junior String Group and saxophone, flute and brass ensembles.
We organise expert tuition in chamber music for the more experienced members. Recently our String Quartet, Flute Quartet and Brass Septet received high praise.
WYMS has a productive relationship with Norfolk County Music Service (and its Youth Orchestra). Now officially a ‘HUB’, we continue to offer broad opportunities for young musicians.
