Free Heritage Open Days

FREE Norfolk Heritage Open Days Friday 6 September  – Sunday 15 September

Norfolk Heritage Open Days is England’s biggest festival of history and culture, and here in our fine county, we’re spoiled to have such a vast wealth of both! It’s the perfect activity for anyone into their history, especially locally:

Visit Mid Norfolk Railway’s Wymondham Abbey Station Saturday 7 September and discover just what was involved in getting trains back on the abandoned railway between Wymondham and Dereham – and now, in keeping it safely operational? And where does Wymondham Abbey Station fit in?

Wymondham Abbey is among the most magnificent churches in East Anglia. Admire the magnificent interior; browse displays on the church’s fascinating history; hourly guided tours; bell tower tours; display of unique ‘Wymondham Scroll’, painted by local artist Patrick Boswell, the Scroll is a 164ft long watercolour of street scenes of the Medieval and Georgian heart of the market town of Wymondham. This is only the second time it will have been displayed.

Short group guided tours of the Abbey on Friday 13th, Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th  September, 11am, 12noon, 2pm & 3pm.

Bell Tower tours Sunday 15th September 1.30pm, 2.45pm & 4pm.
