Medieval women as Healers: nurses, midwives and wise women.
In the medieval period, women were the primary healers, mopping up bodily fluids, delivering babies and providing remedies for every ache, pain and illness. They also sewed up wounds and set bones.
Drawing on illustrations, this talk will provide examples of some of the tasks women healers performed and demonstrate the level of skill they achieved.
