Wymondham Players – The Actress by Peter Quilter
Rehearsing this play is a real pleasure. When I first read it I recognised it as a good play that would suit Wymondham Players and entertain our audiences. But it has only been during rehearsals as the actors bring the characters to life that much of the humour in the play has revealed itself to me. The action covers the evening of the last night in the career of “The Actress”. Such an occasion is bound to be emotional; visitors to her dressing room, some unexpected, ensure it is highly charged – with love, loyalty, anger, envy, anxiety, resentment and, perhaps, regret all bubbling to the surface. Throw in a reasonable amount of brandy, chocolate, champagne and “enough flowers to open a shop” and the emotions overflow. I hope you will, in the words of Katherine “find all that hysteria really invigorating” and enjoy watching the play as much as we have enjoyed rehearsing it.
