The Bridewell Tearoom
Description
The cosy Bridewell Tearoom is located off Wymondham Heritage Museum's main gallery in what was once the exercise yard for prisoners held on remand waiting to be brought before the magistrate's court. On offer is a delicious selection of homemade cakes and scones. In addition there is a variety of cold drinks and snacks together with toast, toasted teacakes and crumpets. Hot drinks include Cappuccino, Latte and Americano and a selection of teas such as Earl Grey, Camomile and Peppermint. Take away is available.
As you enter the Tearoom you'll spot the 19th century wishing well. It is 23 feet deep and visitors are invited to drop a coin in and make a wish. On sunny days, relax with your drinks and snacks in the lovely courtyard garden.
Also in the Tearoom is a piano dating from the 1870s. It was played to accompany silent films starring the likes of Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd shown at The Picture Theatre which stood on Town Green in the early 20th century.
While visitors enjoy their refreshments they can check out the cabinet displaying artefacts and curios from days gone by including cook books that your mother had in her kitchen. On the wall are paintings by local artists which change monthly.
Entry to The Bridewell Tearoom is free. But it is the perfect opportunity to explore all the fascinating displays showcasing the history of the town and its residents. Normal admission rates apply for the museum.
