Loop Trail Wymondham Historic Station, Toll’s Meadow Nature Reserve & The Lizard

Overview

This Loop Trail starts at the bottom of Fairland Green.

WALK >> along London Road, cross at the traffic lights onto Station Road and follow signs for the modern mainline railway station.

Here you will find the historic railway station built in 1845, decorated with Brandon flint work. This is home to the Station Bistro, where you can watch trains go by and dine in a railway carriage. There is a giant Thomas the Tank Engine in the garden too.

To Toll’s Meadow Nature Reserve

WALK >> facing the station, turn right and walk along Cemetery Lane until you reach the gateway into the
meadow on your right.

Step into the past when you explore the meadow, seeing plants and wildlife that used to be common everywhere. You might be lucky and hear or see a delightful water vole!

WALK >> follow the path over the River Tiffey until you come out onto the London Road, turn right back to the traffic lights, to cross and retrace your steps until you are the bottom of Fairland Green again. Rejoin the main trail by going up Fairland Street.

If you’d like to see another green space The Lizard can also be reached from Station Road.

DIRECTIONS >> when walking towards the station turn left at The Railway pub onto the road called The Lizard and follow this, crossing under the main train line until you reach the gate. Then retrace your steps to rejoin the trail.
